Review of Splendor in the Grass (1961) by Matt R — 28 Sep 2008
The story was promising and fresh at the beginning, then came the slow and boring screenplay, besides the primitive editing and Warren Beatty's performance to lead the whole thing down.
I can see the influence of the decorations and art direction style here on the contemporary directors now, in addition to this beautifully designed classical lighting and cinematography. Elia Kazan did a great job but I didn't like some of his scattered symbolic shots, especially when the story was going to end.
