Review of Spiderbabe (2003) by Timothy S — 17 Feb 2011
Depending on how good the simulated sex scenes are, the sexy Cinemax movie knockoffs like "Spider-Babe" are usually good, campy fun. For whatever reason however, the genuises behind this epic decided to release two versions of the film on DVD. After the tamer version that I got, there are instructions on how you can order the uncut version. All I could do was sit and wonder why. If you make a movie like this and either cut the sex scenes prematurely, or even worse, cut them before they get started at all, what's the point? You don't watch a movie like this for the special effects (they're lousy) or the witty banter (it's mostly lame). I do, however, like the film's start Misty Mundae. She's very cute, and has a fresh look to her that's very appealing. She also has a hot, very natural body that is obviously untouched by unnecessary plastic surgery, which is refreshing. Not that you get to see a lot of it in this maddening, infuriating version, but I got the general idea.
The sad thing is that I also got the idea that the extended version of this would be considerably better. Besides Mundae, the rest of the cast is very sexy as well, and since most of the on-screen hook-ups looked to be girl-on-girl, this really could have been something. It's certainly loopy enough, but that's not enough of a reason to watch this watered-down cut. After this, all I would want to see are the scenes that were cut and call it a day. This is someone's idea of a bad joke.
