Review of Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) by Joshua O — 13 Jul 2017
The latest addition to the acclaimed MCU shines brilliantly by bringing back one of Marvel's marquee characters. Tom Holland delivers a pitch perfect Peter Parker (try saying that three times fast) as the titular hero steps up and tries to prove himself to his idol, Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr.
). Adding to the brilliance of the film is Michael Keaton's Adrian Tomes/Vulture, who brings his signature everyman charisma to the role and makes this one of the most engaging dynamics between Spidey and one of his foes since Tobey Maguire teamed up with Alfred Molina in Spider-Man 2.
Marissa Tomei proves to be a phenomenal Aunt May and Jennifer Connely adds a wonderful new dynamic as Peter's AI assistant, Karen. Including returning MCU favorites Jon Favreau and Gwyneth Paltrow and supporting turns from Zendaya, Jacob Batlon and Laura Harrier, this film is a wonderful welcome home for our friendly neighborhood web-slinger and I can only hope that this is the first of many wonderful Spidey outings in the MCU.
