Review of Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) by Cole S — 16 Aug 2017
Well ladies and gentlemen after 12 years, 6 movies, and 3 lead role changes we now know who the real Spider-Man is, Tom freaking Holland. The kid is amazing, funny, and fits perfectly between your typical nerdy high school kid and super hero badass. Along with Tom the rest of the cast was perfectly placed into their roles and portrayed them flawlessly. You got Peter Parker's nerdy fat friend Ned (Jacob Batalon) who wears a special hat to parties and gets excited over his new Lego Death Star. The weird creepy stalker girl (Zendaya) who doesn't quite fit in but at the same time fits in perfectly and comes into shots at the perfect time. Then you have Vulture (Michael Keaton). His portrayal of the villain in this movie was groundbreaking. Groundbreaking is the word because while you want to pinch the guy for what he is doing, at the same time you almost feel bad for the reason he is doing it. Tony Stark (RDJ) makes slight appearances throughout the full and has a screen presence similarly to his interaction with Spider-Man in "Captain America: Civil War". The way the film started and ended was perfect along with every scene in between, including another great Stan Lee cameo along with other cameo appearances by Captain America and scenes from Captain America: Civil War taken from the perspective of young Spidy. I really enjoyed the allusion scene to "Ferris Bueller's Day Off". The end credit scene perfectly reflected the whole persona of the movie and was one of the most creative I've seen. This was a fantastic movie to start off a new era of Spider-Man and I can't wait for more action-packed fun and adventure.
Likes (CONTAINS SPOILERS):
I loved how the movie wasn't dominated by the relationship between Peter and a girl.
Tom really knew how to exactly portray what it would be like if a 15 year-old got superpowers.
I liked how his friend Ned reacted when he found out who his best friend really was.
I enjoyed Tony Stark as his mentor, gotta love RDJ.
Tom Holland has a huge career in front of him.
Stan Lee plays an old man, who has a crush on an old lady, who gets disturbed in his second story apartment as Spidey mistakes a car robber and the alarm goes off.
The mid credit scene consisted of The Vulture in jail as he is asked by a fellow criminal where to find Peter Parker, in which he leaves him unanswered.
The very end credit scene was very unexpected and very comical, it was Captain America giving a speech on patience, similar to his other teaching videos in the film. A very different end scene similar to the one at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy 1 (both being very irrelevant to the next movie installments, but very funny nonetheless).
