Review of Spider-Man 3 (2007) by Cooper C — 21 Jan 2015
Sadly "Spider-Man 3" doesn't quite reach its predecessors in terms of quality. The reason is simple: Raimi didn't want Venom, as he wanted to make the Spider-Man he loved as a kid, fans wanted Venom, the studio saw that.
..and they sort of forced Venom on Raimi. So the whole Venom plot is now shoehorned in with the original story that has a very different tone. It is now two films crammed together, and the script becomes an unfocused mess with too many characters and plots to keep track of.
I think the film did the best it could despite things like symbiote not being handled the way most Venom/Symbiote fans would've liked (again Raimi didn't want that at all). There are still plenty of good effects and action sequences and some good moments to warrant the movies enjoyment, but it really doesn't do the series justice.
