Review of Spider-Man 2 (2004) by Aaron M — 21 Jan 2015
One of those rare sequels that manages to top its predecessor. "Spider-Man 2" sports a better villain in Alfred Molina's Doc Ock (no offense to Dafoe who did a great job, but Molina just kicks ass here as a villain I personally prefer).
It also goes deeper into how hard it is to maintain both a normal social life AND be a superhero. Maguire does a great job of showing Peter constantly struggling to make the right choice. The train sequence might be one of the best action scenes of all time.
Few superhero sequels take advantage of having the origin out of the way as "Spider-Man 2", which uses the freed up script time needed to showcase an origin to really tell a great story.
