Review of Spider-Man (1977) by Roxanne D — 25 Dec 2015
This Spider-Man raised the bar for what the gen pop and law enforcement are capable of in a movie like this. They're not just useless damsels; they actually help Spider-Man, and they actually return the favor.
Gwen is also far more interesting than any so called love interest I've seen in this type of film. She isn't a passive recipient of Spider-Man's heroic rescue, rather, she actively aids in the victory over Dr.
Connors, which Spider-Man would not have been able to do without her. Furthermore, Gwen actually makes her own decisions, allotting her a wonderful amount of individuality. Her agency is reinforced in the second film, but as my earlier review indicates, it is also diminished by her unfortunate and unnecessary passing.
