A film that is as subtle as a sledgehammer, with symbolism here is so heavy-handed that you are likely to leave covered in bruises. Kristen Stewart is magnificent through it all though, whether slurping down pearls or fetching the boltcutters.
Sally Hawkins is also a dream, Timothy Spall a nightmare, and Mike and the Mechanics a miracle in crucial roles.
