I didn't mind the overblown special effects. I thought the storyline was coherent and I thought the characters were well developed. I liked this movie quite a bit, despite the overarching negative criticism it seemed to receive when it came out.
Some of the Asian characters performances were weak and annoying at times - as were some of Emile Hirsch's fight moves but other than that I thought this was a solid entertaining film.
