Is there any reason why this movie is not animated? I think Speed Racer would look terrific if they'd have done it the right way. Although I normally like colourful visuals in Speed Racer the actors look just out of place in this excessive overuse of CGI backgrounds and surroundings.

But the visuals are not the only problem, the plot is stupid and predictable without anything to think about I doubt even children will be mentally satisfied after seeing this. The plot also lacks some plausibility not in the way of physics, etc. that's not what I was expecting but, the way the whole championship and the financing works... you better not start to think it through.

I don't know the anime but I guess this is just another adaptation that sacrificed charme, heart and wittyness for some extra special effects.

PS: and what about this stupid comic relief pair of little brother and chimpanzee - hated them!!
