Review of Speed Racer (2008) by Jessica R — 11 Feb 2013
It sets out to be The Matrix meets Looney Toons and the effort proves to be... not what you'd hope for exactly. I tried to like as much as possible (unbelievably trippy cool shots, original, Jack Shepherd, great action) but there's so much here that I could've done without.
Now if you already saw it you can say it with me; ready 3, 2, 1... Chim Chim and Spritle. Without their candy induced acid trip and constant lame ass unfunny cut-aways, the films long 2hr 15min run time could've been trim trimmed to a nice 1hr 45min.
Yeah they probably take up 30min of pure celluloid crap. I also could've done without the strange appearance from Shaft (Richard Roundtree). But when it came down to the races and the other characters I actually could buy into it, and was extremely impressed and thrilled.
Give me an adults only cut. Oh and anyone that is a fan of the original Speed Racer cartoon, please come find me so I can punch you square in the man tits.
