I think you have to take a movie for what it is, you can't judge every movie on the same criteria. This movie is meant to be over-the-top and colorful and ridiculous, and it succeeds... It's great to look at and it can be cute and funny.
It takes the classic cartoon and adapts it into a high octane, cutting edge cgi movie, it's not that different from Transformers in that respect. Neither of them are brilliant movies but they're nice to look at and zone out.
Don't just pan this movie because it looks like "cotton candy throw-up" as some have said; I think of it more as "double-rainbow eye-rape"... and that can be a good thing. It's unique, it's fun.
Don't take it so seriously.
