Review of Speed Racer (2008) by Marcd. — 09 May 2008

I'm sure I'll take heat for this, but this movie is a lot of fun. Full disclosure: I was, indeed, a young kid in the early 70's when the cartoon was on constantly, and I'm a WipEout loyalist, so I had a natural affinity for the personality and the visuals in this film.

I enjoyed the over-the-top feel to the whole thing, and the innocent, old-fashioned story that it tells. John Goodman and Matthew Fox are both excellent in their roles, and Ricci/Srandon/Hirsch are far from bad.

I was pleasantly surprised by the chubby younger brother - I thought he might be too annoying to bear based on the trailer, but he's got some acting chops. SO.... if you never watched the cartoon and don't play videogames, don't see this film based on my qualified endorsement, but again, I enjoyed it.
