Review of Special Forces (2011) by The D — 20 Apr 2012
I expected so much more from this, especially looking at some of the cast this should have been a lot better than it turned out to be. The problem probably lies with a lot of it being lost in translation. It drifts from French to English a tad untidily and the French dialogue doesn't quite come across within the subtitles the way it was intended.
Diane Kruger plays a French journalist who is kidnapped by The Taliban & held in Pakistan. Djimon Hounsou heads a special forces team tasked with rescuing her from her captors.
So the film mainly deals with the extraction and after missing their pick up it heavily features on their arduous trek across desert & mountains to Afghanistan. A trip riddled with fire-fights as The Taliban pursue them.
The fire-fights are competent enough but their is a sudden unexplained chemistry between the journalist and her saviours that given her previous articles about the forces would not have been possible.
Another downside is the score. Not that it's bad it's just inappropriately gung ho given the subject matter.
Sadly a disappointing movie that promised more.
