Review of Special Forces (2011) by James F — 13 May 2013
You can forget that 15% on the tamayometer -- this is a taut, well executed film that doesn't glorify Special Operations Forces. You know going in that Diane Kruger, who's a talented actor (obviously, as you can see from her photo, easy on the eyes) is going to get into trouble and SOF is sent to her rescue.
Unlike a Sly Stallone film, there are no false heroics. What SOF does is dangerous and deadly and this film portrays that and the courage and professonalism of French SOF. Read Bing West's fine book THE WRONG WAR and you'll get a glimpse of what the war in Afghanistan is really like.
It's a good movie, worth watching. All of the SOF operators are well portrayed. The Taliban leader is the weakest character. I'd give this one 6.5/10.
