Review of Special Correspondents (2016) by Richard S — 05 Oct 2016
Ricky Gervais knows how to write brilliant, painful and awkward comedy and he usually expertly follows this up with a gut punch of heart breaking tenderness. Special Correspondents is an enjoyable but instantly forgettable film.
It was only really the 2nd half of the film that made me laugh and the characters weren't as likeable as in Gervais' previous writing. I also felt that Vera Farmiga was perhaps miscast as Gervais' onscreen wife, she didn't really have an onscreen presence for this role and felt she was a bit flat.
It might be down to this being a remake and so there are aspects of the original film as well as Gervais' original writing. Enjoyable once but not one I'd go back to.
