Review of Special (2006) by Leslie L — 04 Apr 2009
Although it begins as a promising underground comedy, the underlying themes of inner-struggle and personal defeat prevail, taking over as the movie progresses. The segments that ARE humorous are well worth the drudgery and bleakness of the rest of the film.
Michael Rappaport gives a performance equally as compelling as that in Higher Learning. He is a highly underrated and overlooked actor. When it comes down to it, everyone has felt defeated and beat down by something, or someone, in life.
This just brings a new take to those emotions. Great film.
