Review of Spartan (2004) by Nikolai E — 13 Aug 2009
It switches gears so often it's impossible to get bored, it's got that going for it. Spartan is an appropriate title for such a stripped-down distillation of a thriller, with nothing but lean plot and character remaining.
But it's smart, and its surprises and twists are genuine and earned. Overly cerebral, but what from David Mamet isn't? Succeeds fully within its modest parameters, and that's all I ask.
