Without a doubt, Spartacus is one of the greatest films of the 20th century. Spartacus brought director Stanley Kubrick to prominence and is a highlight of Kirk Douglas career --- who also produced the film under his company, Bryna Productions.

Kirk Douglas is as heroic as the character he portrays in that he credited Dalton Trumbo for writing the brilliant screenplay. Trumbo was on the Hollywood blacklist and couldnât get a writing job unless he wrote under a pseudonym.

Mr. Douglas ended that by crediting Trumbo, bringing back his career and calling out the blacklist for the travesty that is was. In short, the film was ground breaking on many levels. I would say most young people would find the film boring as it does not pander to those unfamiliar with the films deliberate intent to draw parallels between 1960's political and social mores.

I hope Hollywood never tries to mount a re-make of this film, as it is perfect as is. If you have never seen Spartacus, put it down on your list of Must See films --- you won't regret it.
