Review of Sparkle (2012) by Melody B — 16 Aug 2012
Wonderfully nostalgic with a beautiful yet soulful sound is....Sparkle. Jordin Sparks marks her entry onto the big screen with an innocent yet well played daughter of the iconic Whitney Houston. As the true focus and heart of the Sisters group, Sparkle unfolded into an all too familiar story of musicians and singers on their way to the top.
Sparkle reminded me of Dream girls because it is a period film and because of its soulful sound. The actors performed well based on their material but the real star of the show was the music. I attended a very early screening in an effort to avoid the Friday night crowd.
My recommendation is to go see, support the movie and its producers. Whitney Houston is credited with an executive producer title. Whitney's performance is the only song that made me cry...because I miss her and her voice.
Sparkle Sparkles!
