Review of Sparkle (2012) by Phyllis C — 17 Aug 2012
Was tempted to wait to watch this movie when released on DVD because the theme has been overdone (Dreamgirls, Whats Love got to Do with It, the less recognized Five Heartbeats and others) but good friend invited me to go to a theatre tonight to watch it.
I enjoyed musical performances mostly reminescent of the original movie and I was moved by Whitney's rendition of the gospel song "His Eye is on the Sparrow". I was not bored and was entertained, however, if you are expecting the same quality film of Dreamgirls you will be disappointed.
This movie is entertaining and worth the price of a discounted ticket and showcases Jordan Sparks' talent although she only performs solo numbers at the conclusion of the movie.
