Review of Sparkle (2012) by David B — 25 Jan 2013
RE-make of a 70's films, which I have never seen, but I am curious to see now. Whitney Houston made her short-lived return to acting in this film, unfortunately she died before the release. She does her best acting job to date as Sparkle's mother. Jordin Sparks as Sparkle is good, but Carmen Ejogo steals every scene she appears in as Sister. The whole cast does a good job, but the script is lacking something called originality.
The real star of the film is the music, which sounds like old classics from the 60's reminiscent of Diana Ross and The Supremes.
