Review of Space Jam (1996) by Darien S — 17 Dec 2012
This movie isn't meant to be genius but I think it is. The writers seemed to be well aware of how stupid (and balls out weird) combining Michael Jordan and the Looney Tunes would be. The movie has so many calculatedly sentimental moments that I have to wonder how intentional some parts of this movie are.
Especially since the sentiment usually doesn't mean anything. Michael Jordan, too, is such an awkward actor that his casting couldn't have been serious. (His character arc is so half assed and non existent that it is absolutely hilarious.
) Also, the inclusion of Bill Murray as wanting to be in the NBA is so odd that...if this movie is unintentional I highly enjoyed its wackiness. It isn't just the usual (and sadly common) cocaine fueled energy that crappy animation often has but the bizarre combination of elements that could have only have been envisioned by someone who was on something really powerful.
