Review of Space Chimps (2008) by Rachie M — 16 Jan 2009
Space Chimps is... surprisingly bad. It's not that there was high expectations for it, but rather that it was so bad and had such a "budget-movie feel" to it that it even failed to meet basic expectations for a cinema-screened movie.
For an animation movie, the graphics were really bad. It was bearable (though still ugly) at first, but when it got to the alien planet later on, it just got terrible. It was as it the theme involved the intentional use of garish colors and just plain ugly designs.
Not only that, the animation itself of the characters was just not fluid enough - you know it's bad when the characters' mouths don't even sync right with their speech!
And if that wasn't enough, the plot of the movie was so shallow and weak that at best it felt like the winning entry of a school screenwriting contest. Things just don't seem to make sense or the writers probably didn't even care to have them make much sense.
The only saving grace I can think of for Space Chimps is that it was mercifully short. I can't see any way that I would recommend this movie to anyone... except maybe young children who couldn't care any less for anything else except for a mess of movie colors and sound. For the rest of the world, do yourself a favor and avoid this movie.
