Review of Soylent Green (1973) by Irma's D — 30 Mar 2008
I saw this one for the first time just the other day and despite certain flaws I have to say it really captured my attention. it is a sci-fi, whodunnit, apocalyptic drama set in the 21 century but since the movie was made in 1973 it was interesting to see how they pictured it...be sure it is NOT what you would expect. the future is NOT clean, rigid and faceless and it does not turn out for the best...
Heston is more than ok, a bit downplayed for my taste (this goes out to the director, I am sure) and a young leigh taylor-young is 'furniture'..?! :) and there's edward g. robinson, of course.
The fact that I saw it just the other day and cannot remember the end is proof enough that the end was disappointing...after you guess what it is all about it's just not enough somehow...i wonder how this is executed in the book..
