A piece of pop culture that's often quoted for it's closing lines, but nevertheless a great sci-fi flick showing the late, great Charlton Heston doing what he does best. The movie is dated in the same way "A Clockwork Orange" tried to predict the future but it is prophetic in some ways as it shows what happens when food becomes scarce, global warming is taking hold of the world, and overpopulation is rampant.

Cheesy as some of it may be, especially with what seems like a forced romance in the movie, it's watching a world where a jar of strawberry jam costs $150 and meat is hard to come by is what makes the movie fascinating to watch.

Although the movie may be a sci-fi look into the future, it also proves to be a solid film noir in some aspects as Charlton Heston unravels the conspiracy behind Soylent Green. Heston might seem like an overactor who grits his teeth and chews on scenery every chance he gets, but he walks a fine line between camp and greatness to where everyone loves him for it.
