Review of Soylent Green (1973) by Christopher B — 02 Jan 2014
One of the classics - of any genre!
Hard to believe this came out in 1973; Global warming, overpopulation, 1%ers, - & this happens in 2022 (we're almost there!)!
Minimalist sets makes you think this was was originally a play. Great script, adequate camera work (without SFX), and impeccable acting from several icons of the screen. Where else can you see "The Rifleman" take on the president of the NRA? Or see the greatest gangster actor confer with T'Pau, the ruler of Vulcan? Or see Moses talk back to the Bajoran Emissary? Or the father of eight overseeing dozens of "humane" mercy killings. A tip notch B-flick with an A-cast any director would love to have - and this director was the nephew of Koko the Clown and Olive Oyl!
