Review of Soylent Green (1973) by Alan L — 28 Mar 2014
Pretty standard dystopian view from the early 1970's. I just sat through the whole movie for the first time tonight.
It is competently made, but is claustrophobic. In cases like this, I am always wanting to see more of the world being portrayed. Here, the movie is shot on backlots, etc., with a couple of minor matte paintings.
The film finds a properly cynical viewpoint at the end, but that last minute of clarity doesn't elevate the film from being standard fare.
