Review of Soylent Green (1973) by Jake A — 25 Mar 2013
Exceptionally well-crafted movie, which scarily echoes concerns of 2013 even though it was made 40 years earlier. The world that is created, albeit looking very 1970s, has a great feel to it with the callousness of a society in meltdown where the current rules no longer apply and everyone is fighting over the scraps of civilisation.
Even if you know the ending (and to a modern audience its easy to guess in a world where chickens are fed chickens) watching Heston and Robinson marvel at eating real food and their delight at a jam covered spoon are not only brilliant scenes but also very sobering ones.
