Review of Soylent Green (1973) by Mary Jane W — 08 Jan 2009
Lame. This should've been at least shocking towards the end, but it was not at all. The big "twist" was tainted for me cuz I already knew the secret of Soylent Green wafers, but this should've still had some emotion and feeling to it when we discover what that secret ingredient is.
A really great idea, but is executed horribly and Heston is to blame for a lot of it. What the hell is with all these culturally significant films ending with the cheesiest lines from Mr. Ben-Hur? "Soylent Green is people! We've got to stop them somehow!" FREEZE FRAME and Credits.
