Review of Southpaw (2015) by Abdalla E — 29 Aug 2015
MY GOSH! HOW DEPRESSING CAN A MOVIE BE?!! This is a very emotionally brutal movie. Jake Gyllenhaal is phenomenal as usual, and everyone else does fantastically as well, especially the young girl. The first half of this movie is absolutely hard to watch, and emotionally draining.
The second half makes the dreadful waterboarding of the first half worth it though. The directing, writing, and acting all work together well to make a well done drama, despite many cliches. Just bring some cat pictures to look at to make it through the brutal scenes.
