Review of Southpaw (2015) by Joanna B — 21 Oct 2015
What makes Southpaw so great is not its plotline or the fact that it is considered a boxing movie. The fight scenes are great, sure, but Jake Gyllenhaal's acting, the best of the summer, carries this film.
Southpaw is more or less a story of family and persevering through hardship. Forrest Whitaker also shines in a supporting role. I can't say I agree with the critics, who gave this a "certified rotten" rating at 59 percent.
