Review of Southern Comfort (1981) by Peter K — 18 Apr 2011
An atmospheric, creepy horror/action/thriller in the vein of Deliverance. A squad of soldiers armed only with blank firing weapons wrong a group of Cajun hunters whilst on weekend manoeuvres and find themselves being stalked and taken out one by one.
Some great performances, some tragically dated but all in all this is a terrifically and terrifyingly effective film that could probably be remade into something equally effective if given to someone who could resist the temptation to turn it into a simple torture-porn movie.
