Review of Sound of Noise (2010) by Jason G — 11 Mar 2012
Films like this, films that are bold, original and are so far removed from the norms of Hollywood, give me hope that there are still great films, hidden gems, to be found in this copy-paste era.
The genre of foreign language films unfortunately is not garnering as much steam as it should. People are so conditional into thinking films that are not English are to be avoided. Subtitles are taboo and anything that does not fit in the cookie cutter definition of a what a film should not even be glanced at.
In this sad reality, remarkable films like "Sound of Noise" are buried in obscurity. The average filmgoer does not have the opportunity to experience something that is revolutionary and completely redefines the way one looks at music, sound, noise and one's self.
This film is about musicians, so numbed by traditional views of music, who break the proverbial mould by staging a seminal concert that terrorizes the general populace, but allows one tone-deaf cop to open up and experience something that he has been missing. He has been shunned by his musically gifted family, that he sees music as a tool of oppression; yet, in spite of that, this team of renegade musicians open his eyes, allowing him to redefine his opinion on what sound, noise and music really is.
Overall, this is one that should be on the top of your cinematic list. Join the revolution!
