Review of Sound of Freedom (2023) by Kenj45 — 07 Jul 2023
I was concerned that this movie will look very low budget like watching a tv movie on the big screen. I went to watch it opening night anyway because I love Jim Caviezel from Frequency and think he's a great actor, plus I felt the topic matter was really important, but I'm happy to say that my fears were unfounded. The movie was very well shot and everything (except for one very short scene) look very polished and it looks like a high budget production.
The acting was expectedly good from Jim Caviezel but very unexpectedly good from the child actors. So many great movies have really terrible performances from the child actors holding them back but not in this one. Some of the acting of some of the side characters was a bit iffy, but overall it doesn't take away from the movie.
Fair warning though, don't expect this to be a feel-good movie by any measure. It deals with a very heavy topic and the movie is undeniably very hard to watch, but I still highly recommend that you watch it because it is an important message it is trying to spread. Although there were many moments in the film where people in the theater cheered and clapped.
They have free tickets you could claim from their website if you really can't pay for your ticket, a lot of us, myself included, have paid money into that program so that more people can watch this movie in theaters, so please take advantage of that if you must. But if you can, buy a ticket and pay it forward for others on their site. More people need to see this movie.
