Review of Soul Plane (2004) by Wilson S — 24 Jan 2008
Most people just didnt get this movie. It's actually an eye-opening, Altman-esque character study focusing on the hopes and dreams of multiple African-Americans in a white mans world. The title works on many different levels, referring both to the airplane full of soulful brothas and an alternative plane of existence where people are seen by the beauty of their souls, not the color of their skin.
The movie raises many intriguing questions: Can a black man succeed in modern America? Will Tom Arnold heal race relations once and for all? Can Snoop-dogg smoke himself into a coma? Acclaimed director Jessy Terrero gives you the pieces, but you must assemble them yourself.
