Review of Soul Men (2008) by Thebrownhornet J — 08 Mar 2009
Now, on paper it sounds superb.... Bernie Mac and Samuel L. Jackson on the same screen? You can't go wrong! Well, apparently you can. First, as much as I dig his 'jive m*therf*cker' chic, Samuel L. Jackson is not a comedic actor. Unless you count 'comedic' as acting f*ckin' crazy. You know what I'm talling about. But I'm going to save my extended commentary on that for 'Lakeview Terrace' (Lord have mercy....).
Anyway, back to 'Soul Men'. So these two old farts reunite and decide to get the band back together. Then of course they had to completely muck it up and throw a woman in there (I wanted dark melanated testosterone only, dammit!) She was somebody's daughter, I suppose. By then I began to completely lose interest. *Sigh* Unfortunately, this is not the way I wanted to remember the comedic genius that is Bernie Mac, or Isaac Hayes, who I believe was in this movie as well. The music sucked; this seemed more like the poor man's version of that Temptations movie they show on BET practically every weekend.
Now granted, I saw a bootleg version of this movie, which is another likely reason I am pissed off. But no.... this was just a BAD MOVIE.
