Review of Soul Men (2008) by Inta K — 21 Feb 2010
Synopsis: Two Over-The-Hill Down-and-Out Real R&B singers attempt to reach the Zenith for a last moment of glory.
PROS.
Bernie Mac & Samuel Jackson's Chemistry.
A movie highlighting good music.
Road Movie.
CONS.
Sometimes cartoonish.
Karen Black.
Final Analysis: I enjoyed this film, It never gets to heavy but it also is more focused on the comedy created by the character relationships more than pratfalls, fart jokes and that ilk, not that those aren't in the movie. The mixed tone did somewhat bring the movie down a notch. Bernie Mac and Samuel Jackson played off each other extremely well and had a tremendous chemistry. The minor characters supported the story here well enough and at times the slap-sticky comedy too. As far as the story goes, it seemed to hit too close to home with R&B Legends, Sam & Dave. So long Bernie.
Decent flick, about a 56% (Rounding up to a 60%).
