Review of Soul Kitchen (2009) by Ilona D — 29 Dec 2009
Fatih Akin's latest delivers as usual! Explosive, character-driven, unpretentious Greek-Turkish-German confection about two Greek-German brothers in Hamburg, Zinos (Adam Bousdoukos, who cowrote the script) and Illias (Moritz Bleibtreu) and their trials and tribulations surrounding the (not-so-Greek) restaurant they're about to lose, women, love, betrayal, loyalty, family ties, gambling, petty crime, loud soul music, kitchen -and other- accidents, and a very high-strung chef (Birol Unel) with a penchant for knife-throwing.
Look out for the accidental orgy, randomly caused by an incendiary dessert (typical Akin shocker, thrown in just for fun)...
