A complete jerk of a children's book writer (a vile Billy Crudup) meets quirky but sweet children's book illustrator (Mandy Moore with loads of black eyeliner), avoids her, insults her, makes her cry; only to - you guessed it! - fall to his knees in the pouring rain and bloody his hands looking for a tiny rock on the beach to bring back to her as a token of his affection.
