Review of Soul Kitchen (2009) by Ritesh S — 12 Jun 2010
After watching the intense cinema that Akin has made in the last few years, I was looking forward to this comedy and I'm extremely glad to notice that Akin is one of the few film makers who can toggle with different genres and still come up with brilliant films!
As always, the two things where Akin always scores are the screenplay and the soundtrack. The screenplay is a like a live-wire, bursting with energy and I did not find any dull moment in the film! All the actors have done justice to the extremely well-written character, but at the end of the day, it is Adam Bousdoukos's film.
It would be like demeaning Akin's genius if I talk about how good the soundtrack is, so I better stop here. (The beats of Manolis by Shantel picturised on Adam and Moritz in a rotating camera shot was the high point for me in the film!).
Three word summary: Lively, Young and Fresh!
