Review of Sorry, Wrong Number (1948) by Matthew D — 16 Jun 2008
A surprisingly-engaging film noir, "Sorry Wrong Number" stars the always-gorgeous Barbara Stanwyck who progressively unravels a murder plot after accidentally overhearing a phone conversation.
What made this film worthy of a mention is simply that Stanwyck does a stellar job in her lead role as the rich, spoiled, and uptight daughter of a pharmaceutical magnate. Although she begins as an extremely unlikable character, she gradually becomes increasingly likeable as the film plays out -- much to the point that the audience can sympathize with her.
This is a testament to not only Stanwyck's acting abilities, but also the script and editing. A fine film noir that deserves more modern viewings.
