Review of Sorry to Bother You (2018) by Adam H — 14 Jul 2018
"Sorry To Bother You" is gonna be a tough film to talk about for most people at first, there is so much that goes down but I think I can do it... this is a HIGHLY original, hilarious and terrifying vision that basically says fuck you to capitalism.
The acting all around here is fantastic, there is not a single performance that is bad or even just ok or even just good, they're all great. Lakieth Stanfield being the overall standout for me, this guy has such a future and just kills it in this role. Armie Hammer on the other hand, who isn't really isn't in this film that much, does steal every scene he's in. I just can't quite say he's the overall standout cause like I said, he's not in it that much.
The writing and directing here is superb, this is a VERY smart movie that does get it's point across and isn't just weird shit for the sake of weird shit, it all makes sense and really makes you look at things in a much darker way. This film also has some of the best humor I've seen all year, just brilliant.
The film is really funny and original for the first two acts, it's not really until the third act until shit gets crazy. I'm gonna be honest here... this film didn't really weird me out like it did many people, like it's a VERY different movie but like a lot of creative films I was more into how creative and ballsy it was and loving it for that way more than I was weirded out by it. It takes A LOT for a film to weird me out and the third act I wasn't really THAT weirded out by but I ADORED it and thought it was the best thing in the entire movie, opened so many new ideas and honestly got terrifying.
My only issues with this movie is there is something that doesn't really go anywhere and David Cross' voice didn't always synch very well, I noticed some others having this issue and I very much agree with them. It honestly took me out of the movie at points and it did just bug me a little bit.
Overall this movie is fantastic, it has so much to say and I really want everyone to go and see it. Movies that are very original and creative tend to get very underseen and I really don't want the same thing to happen with this, this is a very smart movie that people really should see. Bravo to everyone involved!
