Review of Sophie's Choice (1982) by Nav S — 03 Apr 2010
The movie itself is great, naturalistic, well paced and plays like a truly proper adaptation of an emotional book. The hook though - as good as Kline and MacNicol are, is Streep. I can say without a doubt this is the best actress performance I've ever seen, fluently and flawlessly tranferrring between languages and broken languages, and maintaining the "Acting with your entire face" method Meryl is known for. If you didn't know better you'd watch this thinking it was an actual foreign film in places, with a natural born Polish speaker.
Also she's pretty freaking hot in this movie. Just saying. Yeah its a tragedy but sue me.
