Review of Sophie's Choice (1982) by Darryl J — 23 Jul 2008
I regret putting this movie off for so long. To go so long without seeing Meryl Streep's performance in this is criminal. This was one of the best performance I've ever seen. It had so much possibility to be hokey but she made everything believable. One of the most sympathetic characters ever.
As for the movie,it's really good. I thought the first half was near perfect but after that it kinda loses some of the magic that pulled me in from the start. I'm not saying it's bad in any sense but it just isn't up to par with the first part of the film.
This film has one of the most emotionally devastating scenes I've ever seen. You know which one I'm talking about, "The Choice". I don't know how she did it.
Kevin Kline and Peter MacNicol were excellent as well. I wish MacNicol was in more movies. I really liked him in this.
Godddddd,Meryl Streep is sooooooo good.
