Review of Sophie's Choice (1982) by Tim K — 28 Jul 2009
Truly astounding performance by Meryl Streep, quite possibly one of the greatest turns by an actress I have ever seen and undoubtedly the 'highlight' of the film. My only criticism (if that) is that the first half feels slowed by the lack of flashbacks, however I can see how Pakula did this to maintain the mystery and increase the impact once Sophie's story is revealed.
Puts modern overrated awards fodder like The Reader to shame.
