Review of Sophie Scholl: The Final Days (2005) by Jennifer B — 06 Jun 2007
Excellent! Sophie Scholl was a young German woman who was against Hitler's germany and who along with her brother formed the White Rose which was an intelligent group against Nazi Germany. She was an intelligent, educated, compassionate and strong woman, as well as a protestant martyr.
This is one account of how psychotic the human mind can become under false political rule and the kind of evil that pride can breed. The film is not visually stimulating as other movies about Germany during this time are.
Instead it is bland for a reason' there is no forthright brutality, it is all implied and breifly mentioned. The court case is the most visually stimulating with bright red garb at the front of the court.
Throughout the rest of the movie, everything is muted in colour and only sophie stands out with her red sweater. (red for an altogether different reason). I have NO quelms with the way the ,pvie was filmed.
It looked real yet still cinemagraphic, as if you were there with the characters (but with the best views). As for the acting, it was well done. There is no room for any humour, just slight smiles on the characters being tried for being true to what is right.
The way the People's court session went made me furious and I felt like shouting!!! There is real footage in the special features and it was very accurately portrayed! Everything seemed so very controlled!!!!! Interviews also supplied the actors with their characters and it was all well Done!
