Review of Sophie Scholl: The Final Days (2005) by Gabe A — 06 Apr 2009
Very moving portrayal of a famous anti-Nazi as she is questioned by the Gestapo for telling the truth about the war's lost cause. Very important in its portrayal of how freedom of speech is not a guarantee: the scene where Sophie and Fritz lay pamphlets around the university (while seemingly a ho-hum image on paper) is heart-pounding action.
While I was expecting more of the show trial that is on the DVD's front cover, the bulk of the movie was a battle of wits between Sophie and her (possibly sympathetic) interrogator, a dazzling torrent of words, ideologies and emotions.
The ending felt a little rushed, but overall it was an engaging and great movie.
