Review of Sophie Scholl: The Final Days (2005) by Beni M — 31 Jan 2010
This is the part of history that I like to read the most so I was very keen on looking at this film. It was brilliant and the actress was simply superb. During the first round of interrogation by the Gestapo I was so stunned by how cool she remained on the surface but she was wiping the sweat off her hands under the table. Then later she confessed but proudly. She never reneged on her beliefs that Hitler was detrimental to the future of Germany. There was one scene that I loved when her interrogator asked her why she was in university and not making babies for Germany...she said it was a matter of "taste" and I laughed out loud..She was so unrepentantly intellectual, so bright and committed to her beliefs and wasn't just blindly following the masses....
And she faced deathy bravely like a young Joan. I loved this film, it is a must see for folks who are interested in this period of history...
