Review of Songs from the Second Floor (2000) by Marcus R — 27 Oct 2006
What a strange film...macbre imagery--all characters have ghostly white faces, sets are drab colours, not much dialogue, a certain spookiness throughout.
Loved the repetition theme: visual patterns set up in every scene. also lots of repetition in the dialogue. biblical undertones--use of (altered) verse-all of which use repetitive rhythms (think beatitudes) and religious imagery, especially images-both explicit and implicit-of christ.
I like patterns and sparse dialogue, so it kept me watching even though I have little idea what the film is actually about.
